Whats New and Happening

With all things happening at The Walter Sisulu Square e Kliptown, The Nelson Mandela's Sixth Annual Lecture, has definitely been the highlight for The Square this year. The whole Square was buzzing with South Africa's eligible personalities, from politicians to business people, black and white, all in honour of the great man himself, Mr Nelson Mandela, and celebrates his 90th birthday as well. What made this annual lecture even more special than other ones, was that it was not only held in the township for the first time, but that this year's lecture was delivered by Africa's first democratic elected lady head of state, President Ellen Johnson Saleaf, a true woman of statue who not only spoke out against injustice in other African countries, but stressed out the importance of African renaissance and transformation, which is what Walter Sisulu Square upholds and represents through its Feedom Charter Articles.

The Walter Sisulu Square continues to enjoy much publicity and popularity with the media, attested to by their recent live broadcast on Morning Live, as well as SAfm, last week. "This has been an incredible time for us" declares Walter Sisulu Square's Marketing Manager, Charlotte Msibi, "its amazing to see how The Walter Sisulu Square, has been embraced by its locals, and others. Not only has Walter Sisulu Square experienced an increase in its tourist visits, but locals have partnered with The Square to keep it bustling, and various activities have resumed starting from Poetry sessions every Thursday evening to Film Screening through the Ziyabila project initiated by the Marketing department. We have totally embarked on Community development project, as the focal point of this heritage site, and this is what makes Walter Sisulu Square e Kliptown much more unique compared to other Heritage sites , we engage with our people" !!!.

As if that was not enough, The Square is again going through a refurbishment, with its 14 month project taking place on site, the construction of its undercover 180 parking bay venture, no other building in Soweto can pride itself of having such an erection, but Walter Sisulu will be, it is what the Management team calls "a minor inconvenience for a major benefit". " Gone are the days when our clients will have to worry about parking when they come to The Square" says Management, " we want to make sure that people's visit to The Square, are pleasurable in every way possible, right from the time they drive through to The Square, to the tour of our echo-museum, entertainment , shopping and a night out at the Holiday Inn, we bring "incredible" to reality ".

Due to the current construction on site, The Square , will however not be hosting the Annual Soweto Festival this year because of the event's magnitude , but there are still many more events that have been booked at The Square and we'll be taking place through out the year, but better still people can still visit The Walter Sisulu Square by themselves to see what the hype is all about. With the leasing department also brimming with potential tenants, it is easy to see that The Square has become a place to be reckoned with. " Gone are the days when Kliptown, was dry and dusty, but today is burnishes with sights only seen on television" says the management team, " The Square has provoked a lot of excitement within people, it is where people come to feast on what Freedom is, whilst experiencing a touch of sophistication , it is where rural meets urban, politics with leisure, all but in one place, The Walter Sisulu Square e Kliptown . It is our task as the management to ensure that we meet people's expectation, whether locals or international, but not divert from what the place is all about, the place of Freedom".
